[glow=red,2,300]How To Rate Your Fanfiction[/glow]
Lo and behold, fanfictions must have a proper rating. We as the staff understand that some people may not understand the difference between the ratings, or what they mean at all. That is why we are going to provide you with this handy rating guide.
Unrestricted:
- G - General Audiences - All ages admitted. Mild Language is set to schoolyard words such as "heck, dumb, stupid, ect"
- PG - Parental Guidance Suggested - Some material may not be suitable for children . These films contain some mild language, humor, sex and/or violence. No drug content is present. Words such as "thingy, nuts, ass, bastard, pregnant dog," or 1 time of use the word "f**k" were heard in pre-1984 films. Racial insults were also present in pre-1984 films. Some films that get rated PG today may have a few uses of "thingy, nuts, ass, bastard, pregnant dog" but never has any uses of "f**k". A few racial insults may also be heard.
- PG-13 - Parents Strongly Cautioned - Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. These films contain moderate sexuality, language, humor, and/or violence. A little gore may also be seen but bloodshed is never present. This is the minimum rating at which drug content is present. Marijuana is the mildest drug that can be used in this rating. PG-13 films are not necessarily full of profanity. A PG-13 film so rated for strong language may still avoid ever using the word 'f**k'. (2005 film) Bad News Bears had language throughout for one of the reason for its PG-13 and the f-word was avoided. It simply means that the language is stronger and has more uses of 'thingy', 'nuts', 'ass', 'bastard', 'pregnant dog' and racial insults that PG would not permit. These can have 1-3 occurrences of 'f**k' although there have been exceptions due to rating appeals. It is a common misconception that PG-13 movies can only permit one f-word.
Restricted:
- R - Restricted - Under 18 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian 21 years or older with photo I.D. These films contain strong adult language, strong sexuality, nudity, strong violence, and/or gore, and drug use.
- NC-17 - No One 17 And Under Admitted (18 and older ONLY) Films contain excessive graphic violence, sex, aberrational behavior, drug abuse, strong adult language, or any other elements which, when present, most parents would consider too strong and therefore off-limits for viewing by their children.
We understand that the show House, MD has poked at drug addiction but that does not nessisarly mean that your fic has to be rated R.
Use common sence when rating a fic. Think: What is in my fic that certain people should not read?
Thanks,
The House Fanfictastic Staff
