Words get tangled on your tongue
and you stumble on your feet when you miss somebody
There wasn’t much noise around, as House strolled down the sidewalk on the very late night, perhaps very early morning, he had lost all of his employees. Of course, 'stroll' and 'lost' probably aren’t the best words to describe it. You wouldn’t hear anyone describe a cripple man walking home as strolling. But it did seem that way, maybe because of the slow, somewhat peaceful, walk, and maybe just because he was a bit relaxed from the alcohol he drank earlier – though he doubted that really was the reason; House doesn’t get that drunk from just a few shots.
Either way, he was walking home after the eventful day he had had. It seems like more then just two days, heck even less, from firing Chase, to confronting Foreman and loosing Cameron.
Though somewhere inside him, House knew that in the end, Wilson was right, on both aspects.
Change was needed.
Change isn’t fun.
Well, maybe a little fun.
After all, all the vacant places meant new minions and new fun with them….so to speak. House couldn’t help a little grin from appearing across his face at that thought.
And everywhere you think you see them
Walking down the street when you miss somebody
House noticed a bench across the street and decided he'd stop for a moment, his leg wasn’t feeling so good. He sat, as comfortably as it can get on a public bench, and just breathed in the cool night air. He looked forward and noticed a couple kissing each other quite passionately. They looked a bit familiar actually, when he gave them a better look. Could it be….the guy was blonde, the girl a brunette, approximately the same height as Chase and Cameron. Could it really be….? House thought, a bit disturbed a slight frown on his forehead.
The couple drew apart and started walking while holding hands. House could see their faces now. Nope, they definitely weren’t Chase and Cameron; those two were both a pretty ugly couple. Good hair though.
House shook himself. He had got to get a drink if he was seeing things. He got up and entered the closest Pub he saw.
When you miss somebody you tell yourself
a hundred thousand times
nobody ever lives forever so you give it one more try
to wave goodbye wave goodbye
The door, of course, had a bell that rang when he got in. Inside, the place was warmer then it was outside, he sat on a stool by the counter and ordered a drink.
His latest case sure was one heck of a case. Pretty extraordinary! First the woman's heart stopped beating, but she kept on talking. She was declared as dead, and when was put off by-pass woke to life. And then he found out that she had a heart condition never heard of. And with one surgery he saved her.
Yep, pretty extraordinary. Not that any of House's cases weren’t unique, or with some kind of a twist, but still, this one was something special all right.
Every hurtful thing you ever said is ringing in your ear
when you miss somebody
and every thing of beauty that you see only brings a tear
when you miss somebody
Plus, with the memory of this case came the memory of the end of his [probably] best team. First he fired Chase. House himself wasn’t sure if it was just as an impulse, or that he really, full-heartedly, meant what he told Chase. But he had to admit, Chase had grown a lot since he first came in. Of course, on some aspects, he stayed the same, maybe even turned a bit worse, with some help from House perhaps…but overall, he finally speaks up! Not always for himself, as should be, but he speaks up. And he catches stuff as well. Was quite fun to talk to during the past couple of weeks.
Then the confrontation with Foreman. By all means, House meant everything he had said. O course Foreman is a good doctor. But those come and go. And saying you don’t want to be like House is one thing, but at least stick to it. Foreman is no better than House, in some ways, even worse.
And last but not least came Cameron. House wasn’t completely sure why she resigned, but he guessed with everything that’s been going on, add to that everyone gone but her, she decided to leave. And it's not like he can't say the same about her as he can say about Chase. She has grown so much! Still caring, but about herself as well. Much more sassy then when she came.
Gotta love the sassiness.
When you miss somebody you tell yourself everything
will be alright
Try to stand up strong and brave when all you want to do
is lay down and die
House smiled to himself. Everything wasn’t all that bad after all. Sure, he had lost his entire team. But look on the bright side, now he can find new minions to pick to, and they won't be as objective as his former ones were by now. Got too used to him. Now he will have new people, new beginnings.
Just have to get through the interviews.
Maybe he'll find a way to get Cuddy, or James do them….
House took the last zip of his drink and got up. The quickness of his moves gave him a rush of dizziness and he stumbled a bit when he got up, so he leaned on the counter to regain his balance. He shook his head again to clear his mind, left the money for his drink and left the Pub.
It was just a five minute walk to his home, but the walk in the fresh air helped House clear his mind and think clearly. Tomorrow Cuddy will haul him to start interviews and find new fellows. Oh what a headache that would be.
How long I've waited for an answer or a sign
Lonely and weary from this troubled task of trying
to wave goodbye
House opened the door to his apartment to find a big box in the hallway entrance, right in front of his apartment door.
He unlocked his apartment door, grabbed the box, got in and shut the door close behind him. He placed the box on the table and started opening it. Inside was a black guitar case. He opened the case to reveal the guitar he had pre-ordered two days ago, right after Wilson had accused him of still playing his 8th year guitar. House took his old guitar in one hand, and his new one in the other. They were both almost the same weight, thought the new one was a little lighter.
He set down his old guitar on the couch in front of him, as he sat on a chair. He held his new guitar for a moment, appreciating everything about it. From the body to the strings to each of its curves.
It felt good in his hands. Fitting.
Changes are hard. And usually, House tries to avoid them. Why change things you know so good you are perfectly comfortable with? It doesn’t make any sense. But with everything that has changed, House remembered what was good in changes.
You say goodbye to the old, and welcome to the new. You open yourself to new mysteries, new adventures. And that is fun.
House started playing on his new guitar. Almost as a symbol to the new beginning in his life from now on. Hopefully, a better, less painful one.
But who really knows what will be?
So now you start to recognize that every single path you see
leads to a tear in your eye
so wave goodbye wave goodbye.
